Professional Quality Printing in your Home

Arriving in 1988, Hewlett Packard will be the first company to bring professional print quality into the home of the common computer user. Introducing the "Deskjet", an ink based non impact printer. The Deskjet will be able to print in black and white, at a rate of two pages per minute, on plain 8 1/2" by 11" paper. Other features of this printer are a user replaceable cartridge that boasts a resoluton of 600 by 300 dots per inch, as well as a small enough footprint that the printer will actually fit on the user's desktop workspace, without dominating it. The Deskjet is scheduled to be released in Summer, at an MSRP of $1000.00. (Photo and Information from HP)

  1. its crazy to see how far printers have come in such a short period of time. in 1988 a rate of two black and white pages per minuute. now even home editions are over 30 easy. the price is crazy just to show how great the technology of the printer was in 1988.

  2. Wow, only two pages a minute! The home printer is an invention that changed society. I was in middle school when we got our first computer and printer. I remember thinking how revolutionary it was. Before we got our printer any time I had to do reports for school I either had to go to the library or use my Dad’s old typewriter. This changed everything as I could now do all my work at home and print it out when I was done. We’ve come such a long way since then, printers are pretty common in most homes and people depend on them for printing their papers and reports, artwork and photos, maps, even coupons. It’s good to see the price has gone down too!

  3. It’s incredible how far this technology has come in the last twenty years. From printing only two per minute and costing $1000, to today where computers print dozens of copies per minute and cost less than $100… How far we’ve come.

  4. Printers have come a long way. With advances in technology we have been able to bring the printers into our homes. What previously cost hundreds of dollars can be found in Wal-Mart for $50 dollars. Not only are we able to print our papers in black and white but we can use colors. We can purchase a vast variety of printers with other perks, as is the trio: Printer, Fax and Scanner or we can purchase laser printers, etc. Technology has also allowed for the creation of printers for our cameras; we can now print our pictures directly from our cameras. We don’t need to rely on pharmacy stores to print our pictures but we can do it on our own time; some download the pics into their computer and send it to the nearest Wal-Mart or Pharmacy online. Technology has facilitated many of these perks!
